Breast Reduction (Mamoplasty)

Large breasts can be a major source of embarrassment. They tend to interfere with active sports, not to mention the difficulty of finding clothes that fit and look elegant. Occasionally they may cause backache and there is a tendency towards skin problems in the crease below each breast. With time they can droop, resulting in the skin becoming overstretched.

Reducing the size of breasts is a major operation and involves the removal of excess breast tissue and skin. The nipple is relocated higher on the breast, to a more natural position. The incisions are closed with sutures and a padded dressing applied.

Patients tend to be very pleased with the result of a breast reduction operation in spite of extensive scarring. Most patients feel a tremendous sense of freedom since they can now do all the things that their large breasts prevented them from doing. They can go to the beach without feeling embarrassed and fit into ordinary clothes.
